Draft Study Guide: Stop Worrying About Who’s #1

By: FantasyFootballGoat.com

Year and year out, you and I find ourselves getting caught up in this 2-3 month long debate over who is the number one, or number two, overall fantasy draft pick. Is that really the wise thing to do?

Think about it, only 1 in 8, 1 in 10 or 1 in 12 of you will even get the chance to make that decision. Unless you are one of those people, and you know it before hand, you are wasting a lot of time looking at a few players that may not even be on your team.

Early on in my fantasy football career I made the mistake of using all my brainpower pondering who I would take with the number one pick only to get the 8 pick and be looking at 3 or 4 players I know little to nothing about. At this point I was left to roll the rice by making an uneducated guess and leaving myself the with the higher probability of a regrettable pick. Not the best way to begin a march to your league title.

Why not spend time looking at a nice cross section of players that will be available in the first five rounds and spend even more time on a cross section of those players available in the mid to late rounds. These are the the players who will give your team the depth and staying power it takes to make it through your fantasy season.

Don’t get me wrong, you still need to look at the top players. Just don’t get caught up in looking too deep or you might be the guy rolling the dice.

I’ll be back in a couple of days with some tips on how you can systematically look at each player and get a feel for who you want to draft.
