Discover Your Fantasy Football Start’em Sit’em Sleepers for Week 3

Its week three and things are getting very interesting. Some players are exceeding their pre-season expectations (LaMont Jordan) and some are scaring the hell out of their owners (Stephen Jackson). No matter which group you belong to the advice below should help you improve your chances this week.

So without further ado, here are the players you probably won’t see on everyone elses Start’em Sit”em sheet.

Start’em if you got’em

Jason Campbell QB (WAS) - First Tony Romo, then Brett Favre and know Mr. Campbell. I know, I know, he’s no Tony Romo or Brett Favre but do you have to be against this defense? I don’t even care if his o-line is banged up. Expect 2 TD’s and and 260+ yards passing.

** Final Stats: 16/34 for 190 yards and a TD
Final thoughts: I watched the entire game. The Giants defense looked better this week but he had plenty of chances to do some more damage. Fumbles, questionable play calling and untimely penalties led to plenty of missed opportunities.

Ron Curry WR (OAK) - He did great in week one until being shut down against Champ and the rest of Denver secondary last week. Cleveland’s defense is pretty suspect the way it is plus it is really hurting right now. Cleveland has four defensive players listed as day to day: a linebacker, two corner backs and a safety. Chalk him up for 100 yards and a score.

** Final Stats: 3 receptions for 62 yards and a TD.
Final thoughts: The Raiders pounded the ball on the ground for most of the day. He did have another target in the endzone.

Sit’em if you got’em

Lawrence Maroney RB (NE) - I can’t take it any longer. Buffalo or not, it’s time to sit the man down unless you start three running back or just don’t have a better option (even Warrick Dunn is more appealing at this point). Maroney is quickly becoming a RB3. If you don’t believe me just ask the four or five other guys I tried to trade him to this week.

The fact of the matter is he just isn’t getting the touches and most likely isn’t going to score unless he breaks one. Kevin Faulk is vulturing catches, Sammy Morris is vulturing catches AND touchdowns. Can you say running back by three man committee. This week he gets around 75 rushing yards, 0 receiving yards, 0 catches and 0 touchdowns.

* More on Maroney: people have been asking me “but what about the good matchup with the Bills this weekend.” Yes, it is a good matchup, hell, a great matchup even. However, when you have that o-line, Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Stallworth, Ben Watson and a coach like BelchIck, isn’t every game a great match-up? Many would say yes. Maroney had a great matchup in week one and didn’t do anything against the Jets (unless you are happy with 72 yards, no TD’s, no recieveing yards or receptions. I’m not for my RB2). Last week McGahee posted 97 yards on on the same team, plus he had a few catches and a receiving TD.

** Final Stats: 19 for 103, o Receptions, 0 touchdowns
Final thoughts: Gained 28 more yards than I thought. TD vultured by who else - Sammy Morris. Other than that they went to the pass often in the red zone. Kevin Faulk had all of the receptions out of the backfield.

Darrell Jackson WR (SF) - He is part of a passing game that didn’t do very much against a pretty weak Rams defense. Now, you tell me how he will fare against the red hot Pittsburgh Steeler defense on the road. My guess is 2 receptions for around 15 receiving yard. Ouch!

** Final Stats: 4 catches 69 yards
Final thoughts: A few desperation receptions late but nothing stellar.
