Your Fantasy Football Start’em Sit’em and Sleepers for Week 5

With four weeks in the books I figured I would switch up my start’em sit’em and sleeper list. I will still list two players who I think deserve a start and two players that I think should ride the pine. However I’ve added another section that will deal with some of the gray area associated with some players.
This section is called Sleepers: Don’t be surprised if. It will deal with players who, regardless of stature, will perform better or worse than expected. Rather than tell you that you should start or sit these players - since I do not know every circumstance surrounding your team in particular - I am just offering up a little food for thought for those of you who have tough decisions to make this weekend. So lets get to it.
Start’em if you got’em
LenDale White RB (TEN) - I think it is as simple as this. The Titans are 2nd in the league in rushing and Atlanta is 23rd against the rush. I am giving the nod to LenDale because, along with getting the goal line opportunities, he seems to be gaining momentum with each game. I don’t think it is a stretch to expect 80+ and a TD.
Final Stats: 12 for 32 yards, 0 receptions.
Final thoughts: He fumbled early and they gave Brown touchdown opportunity. Atlanta’s defense finally stopped the run.
Arizona Defense - The Cards have been playing solid defense and are playing with confidence coming off of a big win against a very good Steeler team and shutting down Willy Parker (19 carries for 37 yards). They are getting to the quarterback with 12 sacks against above average offensive lines. I like their chances against a decimated St. Louis offensive line with Gus Frerotte under center. I see 13 points allowed, 6 sacks, 4 turnovers and a TD.Final stats: 31 points allowed, 2 sacks, 3 turnovers, 1 TD.
Final thoughts: The point total is surprising and I thought they would’ve had a few more sacks but the turnover and the TD were nice. Hard to believe they can shut down the Steelers but can’t stop a team of second stringers.
Sit’em if you got’em
Thomas Jones RB (NYJ) - Not sure how surprising this is but it has to be said. The Jets either could not or did not run the ball against Buffalo last week (who just happen to be the worst rushing defense in the league). Plus, the Jets defense is in bad shape and will allow Eli and the Giant to have their way. Which means Leon Washington will be on the field catching passes. 40 yards rushing 0 touchdowns and 1 reception.
Final stats: 13 for 36 rushing, 2 catches for 14 yards, 0 TD’s.
Final thoughts: pretty much what was expected.Chicago Defense - The Chicago defense is in shambles due to injuries and the offense is constantly putting them in bad spots. And I don’t care if they have Devon Hester. He isn’t going to score this week against an above average Green Bay special teams unit. 24+ points allowed, 1 sack, 0 turnovers.
Final stats: 20 points allowed, 1 sack and 4 turnovers.
Final thoughts: If you saw the game you know the final stats are misleading. The Packers should have put up more points and a few of those picks were just typical Farve brainfarts. Bears got away with one here.
Sleepers: Don’t be suprised if…
…Chris Cooley TE (WAS) Doesn’t perform well this week. I just saw something the other day about how the coaches were commending him for accepting his reduced role in the passing game to help block.
Final stats: 4 catches for 26, 1 TD.
Final thoughts: I guess he didn’t need to help much against the Detroit defense. Did you notice Sellers vulturing all of the TD’s in this one?…David Carr QB (CAR) gets the start and throws for 250+ and 2 TD’s against the horrible Saints defense. He will realize that all he has to do is throw it to Steve Smith and the rest of the offense will take care of itself.
Final stats: 10 of 17 for 119 and a TD.
Final thoughts: I may have had this right if he didn’t leave the game for a couple quarters. Not sure what happened since I didn’t have this game.
