Your Fantasy Football Start’em Sit’em and Sleepers for Week 6

This week is a little tricky due to the fact that there are a whopping six teams on bye. But, I do think there are some definite starts, sits and sleepers.

Before I start, here’s a little reminder of how I have things set up. I still list two players who I think deserve a start and two players that I think should ride the pine. Also, I’ve added another section that will deal with some of the gray area associated with some players.

This section is called Sleepers: Don’t be surprised if. It will deal with players who, regardless of stature, will perform better or worse than expected. Rather than tell you that you should start or sit these players - since I do not know every circumstance surrounding your team in particular - I am just offering up a little food for thought for those of you who have tough decisions to make this weekend. So lets get to it.

Start’em if you got’em

Nate Burleson WR (SEA) - Branch is out and Nate is playing at home against a weak defense. He lit up the Bengals a few weeks ago so there is no reason to believe he can’t do it to the Saints. I’m looking for 7 catches 75 yards and a TD.

Final stats: 6 catches for 63 yards and a TD.
Final thoughts: He was the third leading receiver on the team and racked up most of his stats playing catch-up but I damn near nailed it.

Kurt Warner
QB (ARI) - The veteran has been getting protection and has been looking great this year as a part timer. Now he’s full-time and his first gig is against a defense that is struggling on pass defense. Carolina comes in ranked 23rd and is just a few weeks removed from being torn up by Joey Harrington (360 yards). He should go for at least 250 and score 2+ touchdowns at home.

Final stats: 2 for 2, 21 yards.
Final thoughts: Knocked out of the game early with an elbow injury.

Sit’em if you got’em (unless your cupboard is bare)

Drew Brees QB (NO) - Last week was the final straw for me. If you can’t get anything going at home against a week Carolina defense then you are no longer a number one quarterback. This week he goes into Seattle to play an good defense in a stadium that many say is tough to play in. With dropped balls and untimely penalties killing drives, chances are slim that they’ll right the ship this week in a loud stadium. There are better match-ups out there. Don’t settle for 190 yards, 0 touchdowns.

Final stats: 22 of 36 for 246 and 2 TD’s.
Final thoughts: Well, well, well look who finally woke up. Not great by any stretch but a solid effort none the less. Funny how he waits til the week when everyone started to count him out.

Cedric Benson
RB (CHI) - Another guy that, outside of a few TD’s, just isn’t getting it done. This week he faces Minnesota who is number one against the rush. Look for 40 yards rushing , 0 TD’s, 0 receptions and a big “I told you so” if you start him.

Final stats: 18 carries 67 yards, 2 catches 18 yards.
Final thoughts: Slightly better than expected but nothing special.

Sleepers: Don’t be suprised if…

Jamal Lewis RB (MIA) plays and has a solid game against a Miami defense that is 31st against the run this year. The Browns passing game is very productive and will keep Miami from crowding the line. This will give the old warrior some room to run. I see 100+ and a TD.

Final stats: Was a gametime decision and did not play.
Final thoughts: His back-up Jason Wright came in had 59 yards on 20 carries, a TD and 3 for 39 receiving.

Tony Romo QB (DAL) struggles against the Patriots. The Patriots are masters at finding your weakness and exploiting it. I just bet they will pick up on some of the things they saw in that Buffalo game. I’m not saying sit him in your traditional leagues - he is a must start - but I am saying lower your expectations. Also, if you play in a weekly salary cap style league, where you can pick different players weekly, I would look somewhere else just in case. Those interceptions will kill you (just ask anyone who played him in the Rotohog league last week). I’ll pencil him in for 200 yards and 1 TD.

Final stats: 18/29 for 199 yards, 2 touchdowns and an awful int at an awful time.
Final thoughts: I almost feel like he could have done better but he was pretty inconsistent all around.
