Five Potential Pickups

By: David Lister

Massive changes here at FSR! Well not massive, but from now on the Five Potential Pickups will be listed by position instead of that nonsensical nonsense we were doing before. Enjoy.

PG-Beno Udrih, Sacramento Kings

There were a bunch of guys I could have listed here, but I chose Beno based on his potential end-of-the-year value. Chances are he’s still owned in your league, but his value is low now that Mike Bibby has returned from injury, cutting into Udrih’s playing time. Still, chances are Bibby won’t finish the year with the Kings, and instead of taking a chance on a younger player why not take a chance that Udrih will return to the starting lineup? If he’s not available, Anthony Carter and Mike Conley, Jr. are still available in quite a few leagues. Also keep an eye on Sam Cassell, who has been playing much better as of late.

SG-Juan Carlos Navarro, Memphis Grizzlies

JC Navarro has seen more playing time over the past five games and he’s responded with three 20-plus point games. Not only will JC help you out with threes, but he’s also PG eligible (I list him at SG because he’s not a big assist guy). He probably won’t get into the starting lineup anytime soon, but he’s a decent short-term option.

SF-Linas Kleiza, Denver Nuggets

Sure, this is based mainly on his 41-point outburst on Thursday, but why not take a risk. It looks like Kleiza will start as long as Kenyon Martin is out with a staph infection (which won’t be long) and he is a good three-point shooter as well as rebounder. He seems to have a very productive game every week, even when he’s coming off the bench.

PF-Jeff Green, Seattle Supersonics

I listed Green a couple of weeks ago, and I decided to put him here again out of stubbornness. The Sonics are awful this year and Green is going to start for the next couple of months, so there’s bound to be some improvement. And his numbers as a starter aren’t that bad to start with–10.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 0.9 bpg.

C-Boris Diaw, Phoenix Suns

This hurts, because as a Suns fan I have developed a very nasty hatred of Diaw over the past two years. With that being said, Diaw has played okay since replacing the injured Grant Hill in the starting lineup. Diaw will give you a boost in assists and the occasional good point or rebound game. Also, since Mike D’Antoni has such a short rotation, Diaw will still get minutes when he moves back to the bench. Now if he could only learn to finish at the rim…
